Overview
- Replacement for Lucent 7B Direct Intelligent Interface
- Interfaces Lucent 5ESS® Switch ISDN API to a remote Application Processor
- Supports AP communication via X.25 WAN, Serial RS-232 or TCP/IP Ethernet
- Integral ISDN BRI “U” interface
The Microtronix Transactor – API Adapter provides interface adaptation between a Lucent 5ESS® Switch's ISDN Application Processor Interface (API) and an Application Processor (AP) mamangement system. It can be used as a direct replacement for the Lucent 7B Direct Intelligent Interface (DII) Unit.
The API Adapter is a versatile, user-configurable, and self-diagnosable interface. The AP may be connected via sync/async serial RS-232C interface at speeds up 128Kbps, or TCP/IP socket. Extensive management, statistic, and diagnostic capabilities are available via direct connection to the console port, or Telnet remote console.
The unit supports several user-defined modes of operation:
- Synchronous Rate Adapter (Layer 1)
- Synchronous Terminal Adapter (LAPD-LAPB)
- Asynchronous Terminal Adapter (X.25 PAD)
- TCP Terminal Server (X.25-TCP Gateway)
- API Adapter (APCP Termination)
Key Software Features
- X.25 to TCP/IP Gateway
- Raw serial
- LAPB - LAPD bridging
- X.25 packet switching
- Interface tracing
- Telnet remote management
Key Hardware Features
- V.24/V.35 WAN port
- RS-232 sync/async serial port

- 10-BaseT Ethernet port
- ISDN BRI U interface
- NEBS approved
User Defined Modes of Operation
1) Synchronous Rate Adapter (Layer 1)
In this mode, the Transactor provides direct transmission and reception path between the ISDN BRI D-channel and synchronous RS-232C port. This mode may be employed if the AP is capable of terminating the ISDN BRI protocol (LAPD).
2) Synchronous Terminal Adapter (LAPD-LAPB)
In this mode, the Transactor converts the layer 2 protocol between the Q.921 (LAPD) protocol in the ISDN BRI D-channel and the X.25 protocol (LAPB) in the synchronous RS-232C port. The AP is required to support the LAPB/X.25 protocol.
3) Asynchronous Terminal Adapter (X.25 PAD)
In this mode, the Transactor terminates ISDN layers 1 and 2, and the X.25 layer 3 protocols. The interface to the AP is an X.3/X.28/X.29 PAD port.
4) TCP Terminal Server (X.25-TCP Gateway)
When configured for TCP terminal server mode, the Transactor terminates ISDN layers 1 and 2, and the X.25 layer 3 protocols. The interface to the AP is a TCP session.
5) API Adapter (APCP Termination)
The API Adapter may also be configured to extract the API capability messages (EDS, MSS, MDR, E911, etc) and deliver these messages across the serial interface or a TCP session. It accomplishes this by terminating the layer 4 protocol of the Lucent 5ESS Switch's Applications Processor Communications Package (APCP). The interface to the AP can be sync (X.25 etc.), async, or TCP/IP. |
